Part of Forrest Gump’s charm is the unique accent that Tom Hanks adopts throughout the movie. Hanks actually borrowed the accent from his co-star, Michael Connor Humphrey. Humphrey played the young Forrest in the film and Hanks became quite fond of the way he spoke. In the end, him and his team agreed that the grown-up Forrest should speak in the strange accent as well.
Tom Hanks won a Best Actor Academy Award for his role while Humphrey received the Young Artist Award for his valuable contributions.
