The main event on the schedule is the opening of the parliament. This annual grand ceremony is held on May 11 and the Queen has missed it only twice during her reign. Both times this happened in the 60s and was caused by Elizabeth’s pregnancy and the inability to personally be present at this action.
It will happen this year, and it is no secret that with the current situation in the country and the world, some of the elements of the ceremony will be reduced, as well as the number of people taking part in it will be reduced.
Previously, Philip accompanied her at this ceremony. But, after retiring, Charles took over this responsibility, taking her to Westminster Palace by car. Yes, he will play his part this time too. He will take care of the Queen’s speech, preparation of the government, and the future agenda for the council.
